Week 5 — Giving and Receiving
Scripture
Isaiah 60:1–6
Matthew 2:10–11
⸻
Big Idea (For Parents)
Long before Jesus was born, God promised (through the prophet Isaiah) that when His Light appeared, the nations would be drawn to it—and that they would come bearing gifts. The wise men are an example of what Isaiah predicted.
Those who receive God’s Light give back to Him in gratitude.
⸻
Family Reflection
(Read aloud or summarize)
Through the prophet Isaiah, God promised a day when His Light would rise over His people and shine into the nations.
Isaiah described kings coming from afar. He described gold and frankincense brought in response to that Light. He described a world where God’s glory draws generosity from the nations.
When the wise men arrive in Bethlehem, they do not come empty-handed. They bring gold. They bring frankincense. They bring gifts—not to earn favor, but to express worship.
The wise men are not the whole fulfillment of Isaiah’s vision, but they are a part of it. They show us what happens when God’s Light reaches the nations.
Epiphany teaches us that God’s Light unlocks something in us. It opens our hearts and our hands. He gives generously to us, making us generous givers.

Discussion Questions
(Choose 1–2)
• What kinds of gifts did Isaiah say the nations would bring?
• Why do you think the wise men brought gifts to Jesus?
• What do their gifts tell us about how they understood who Jesus was?
• How does generosity help others see what God is like?
⸻
Practicing Generosity
This week, we practice responding to God’s Light with open hands.
As a family, choose one tangible way to give this week—time, money, attention, hospitality, or encouragement.
