Summary

Jesus has brought us out of exile and is forming us into a unified, mature people who are learning to live like we belong in the home he’s bringing us to.

Discussion/Reflection Q’s

-In verse 1 Paul calls us to “walk” in a manner worthy of our calling. He is reminding us that we are headed somewhere: home. And how we travel together matters.

  • How would your relationships change if you saw yourself and others as fellow travelers on the way home?

-Exile didn’t just put us in the wrong place—it formed us into the wrong kind of people. That’s why Paul calls us to humility, gentleness, patience, and love.

  • Which of these (humility, gentleness, patience, love) is hardest for you right now?

  • Where do you see “exile-shaped” reactions (harshness, pride, impatience) showing up in your life?

-Unlike the first exodus, this journey home is led by Jesus himself. He entered our exile, defeated what enslaved us, and now gives us everything we need to make it home.

  • What difference does it make to you that Jesus didn’t save from a distance, but entered into our world?

  • Where do you need to trust that Christ has already given you what you need for the journey?

-The gifts Christ gives—leaders who teach and shepherd—are meant to grow us up and build us together into a unified, mature people.

  • How have others in the church helped you grow spiritually and made you a better traveler?

  • Are you actively receiving and responding to the shepherds, leaders, and teachers that God has placed around you?

-Unity isn’t something we force—it’s something we experience as we grow up in Christ. As we practice humility, patience, and love, real unity takes shape.

  • Where are you tempted to prioritize being “right” over being loving?

  • What would it look like this week to pursue unity through maturity in a specific relationship?

Practice This Week
