Summary

In Ephesians 3:14–21, Paul is driven to his knees in prayer under the weight of the cosmic calling God has placed on the church (3:10). But in prayer that weight is lifted, as the love of Christ and the power of God are revealed as the guarantee of the mission’s success.

Reflection/Discussion Questions

1-Paul begins this section on his knees, feeling the weight of the church’s calling in the world.

What burdens or callings in your life are currently driving you to self-reliance rather than prayer?

2-Paul prays that believers would grow in their ability to comprehend the love of Christ.

Do you tend to think more about your love for Christ or Christ’s love for you? How might your life change if you more deeply received his love rather than measuring yours?

3-The sermon emphasized that Christ’s love is not merely fuel for the mission—it is the destination.

Where are you tempted to reduce the Christian life to “doing the work” rather than dwelling in Christ’s love? Why aren’t these two ideas in conflict with one another?

4-Paul ends in doxology, reminding us that the mission rests on God’s power, not our competence.

What would it look like this week to live from praise rather than pressure?

Family-Friendly Focus Moment

Ask: “Does anyone remember the summary line for the sermon?”

It was God fills us so that we can fill the world.

Ask together:

• What does God fill us with?

• How does Jesus show his love for us?

• How can we share Christ’s love with someone this week?

Simple family prayer:

Lord Jesus, fill our hearts with your love so that we can share it with the world. Amen.
