Sermon Follow Up
Summary
Modern Christians often reduce worship down to either evangelism or education, but Hebrews 12 presents a much bigger vision. Throughout the Bible, God repeatedly meets with His people on mountains—from Eden to Moriah to Sinai to Zion. That mountain imagery culminates in Christ and ultimately in the gathered worship of the Church. According to Hebrews 12, when the saints gather in Christ, we ascend Mount Zion and participate in the worship of Heaven itself. Worship is not merely information transfer or emotional inspiration, but a real meeting with God that forms and transforms His people.
Discussion/Reflection Material
-The sermon argued that worship is not mainly about attracting outsiders or educating insiders, but about meeting with God. How does that challenge or expand the way you normally think about Sunday worship?
-Why do you think mountains so frequently become meeting places between God and man throughout Scripture?
-Hebrews 12 contrasts Mount Sinai with Mount Zion. What differences stand out between the two mountains? What does that contrast teach us about access to God under the New Covenant?
-The Psalms speak about “ascending” to worship. Do you think modern Christians still think of worship as ascent into God’s presence? Why or why not?
-The sermon suggested that Sunday should become a joyful feast day for Christian families rather than just another obligation we endure. What rhythms, habits, or attitudes could help make the Lord’s Day more joyful and meaningful in your home?

Big Idea: Worship is when God’s people gather together to meet with Him.
The Bible often shows God meeting with people on mountains. Eden, Sinai, Zion, and even Jesus’ ministry all include mountain scenes. Hebrews 12 says that now, through Jesus, the Church comes to Mount Zion when we gather for worship. That means Sunday worship is not just about learning information—it’s about meeting with God together as His people.
Discussion Question: Why do you think that God wants His people to gather to worship Him instead of everyone worshipping by themselves?
