Sermon Follow-Up

Summary

Psalm 2 reminds us that the good news of the gospel is not merely that Jesus is King, but that by faith we are brought into His royal family. United to Christ, we become sons and daughters of God and heirs with Him. Because we belong to the King, His mission becomes our mission. We invite the nations—not with swords, but with the message of salvation—to find refuge in the One whose reign and government brings life and peace.

Discussion & Reflection

  1. Psalm 2 describes the nations trying to “burst their bonds apart.” Why do people naturally resist God’s authority? Can you think of ways you are tempted to do the same?

  2. The psalm says God laughs at the rebellion of the nations. What does this teach us about God’s power and His confidence in accomplishing His purposes?

  3. Read 2 Samuel 7:12–16 and Psalm 2:7–9 together. How does God’s promise to David help us understand Psalm 2?

  4. Read Acts 4:23–31. Why did the early church pray Psalm 2 after facing persecution? What encouragement did they find in it?

  5. The sermon emphasized that Jesus is the true Son of David. How does knowing Jesus reigns over all things change the way we think about discouragement, fear, or opposition?

  6. Psalm 2 ends by inviting the nations to “take refuge in him.” What does it mean to take refuge in Jesus today?

  7. Because we are united to Christ, His mission becomes our mission. Who has God placed in your life that needs to hear the invitation to find refuge in King Jesus?

Family-Friendly Version

Big Idea: Jesus is God’s King, and everyone is invited to belong to His kingdom.

Family Summary: Psalm 2 reminds us that many people do not want God to tell them how to live. They want to be their own king. The wonderful news is that Jesus isn’t a normal kind of King. He doesn’t only rule over His people; He welcomes us into His family and makes us rulers with Him. When we trust Him, we become God’s sons and daughters and join His mission of inviting others into His kingdom.
