Epiphany Family Worship Guide

Walking in the Light Together

Epiphany is a season for learning how to walk in the light we’ve been given.

This guide is not meant to add pressure or fill your calendar—it’s meant to gently shape the

rhythms you already have.

There is just one devotional for each week in the season of Epiphany (six weeks).

Choose a consistent day (earlier in the week is better than later) to read the devotional as a

family. Read the Scripture, reflect together, and introduce the week’s practice. Let the theme

resurface throughout the week—at meals, bedtime prayers, in the car, or during check-ins.

One question or sentence is enough—no need to rehash the lesson, just let it set the trajectory for the week.

Epiphany: What it is, where it came from, and when we observe it.

What Is Epiphany?

The word Epiphany means “appearing” or “revealing.”

In the church calendar, Epiphany celebrates the moment when Jesus is revealed not only to

Israel, but to the nations—most clearly in the visit of the wise men.

At Christmas, the Light comes into the world.

At Epiphany, that Light is seen spreading outward.

What began quietly in Bethlehem begins to go public.

A Brief History

Epiphany is one of the oldest Christian feasts 2nd century), older even than Christmas (4th

century).

In the early church, Epiphany originally gathered together several revelatory moments:

-The visit of the Magi

-Jesus’ baptism

-His first miracle at Cana

Over time, the Western church focused Epiphany especially on the Magi—Gentile outsiders

drawn by God’s light to Israel’s Messiah. From the beginning, Epiphany has reminded the

church that God never intended His salvation to stay in one place or with one people.

What Epiphany Teaches Our Families

Epiphany shifts us from celebration (during Christmas) to vocation.

The season focuses on the fact that Christ is not only born for us—He is also revealed through

us.

The Light we rejoice in at Christmas becomes the Light we are called to carry into the world.

This is why Epiphany has always been a mission-shaped season.

Dates for Epiphany 2026

Begins January 6 and continues until the start of Lent (2/18).
